"Banff Springs Hotel and Sulphur mountain at nightfall."

When the Canadian Pacific Railway opened the Banff Springs Hotel in 1888, it was the largest in the world. At that time, one could get a room for $3.50 a night, including hot water redirected from the hot springs nearby. Beautiful card, interesting too! Wish I could have seen it in 1888....

Today I opened my mailbox and found this!!!
Jillian from Norfolk Island (Ext. Terr. of Australia!) sent it to me, quite a trip!
Norfolk Island is a small island in the Pacific Ocean located between Australia, New Zealand and New Caladonia. The island is part of the Commonwealth of Australia, but it enjoys a large degree of self governance. Together with two neighbouring islands, it forms one of Australia's external territories.

This card shows the violent power of Mount Ruapehu in eruption. It creates a magnificent spectacle against the night sky. It looks so dramatic.... Ruapehu is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and the largest active volcano of New Zealand!

The Madonna del Sasso is a sanctuary in Orselina above the city of Locarno in Switzerland. It is the principal sight and goal of pilgrimage in the city.

El Obelisco was built in 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first founding of the city. El Obelisco is one of the main icons of the city, and a venue for various cultural activities (usually sponsored by the city government) and other events. I bought this card, it's the Euromast in Rotterdam (the Netherlands).

The Euromast is a tower in Rotterdam constructed between 1958 and 1960, designed by Hugh Maaskant. It was specially built for the 1960 Floriade. It is a concrete building with an internal diameter of 9 meters (30 ft) and a wall thickness of 30 centimetres (1 ft). For stability it is built on a concrete block of 1,900,000 kilograms (4,190,000 lb) so that the centre of gravity is below ground. It has a "crow's nest" observation platform 96 meters (315 ft) above-ground and a restaurant. Originally 101 meters (331 ft) in height it was the tallest building in Rotterdam. It lost this position for a while, but regained it when the "Space Tower" was added to the top of the building in 1970, giving an additional 85 meters (279 ft). Novodevichy Convent, also known as Bogoroditse-Smolensky Monastery is probably the best-known cloister of Moscow. Its name, sometimes translated as the New Maidens' Monastery, was devised to differ from an ancient maiden's convent in the Moscow Kremlin. Unlike other Moscow cloisters, it has remained virtually intact since the 17th century. In 2004, it was proclaimed a Unesco World Heritage Site.

An aurora (plural: auroras or aurorae) is a natural light display in the sky, particularly in the polar regions, caused by the collision of charged particles directed by the Earth's magnetic field. An aurora is usually observed at night and typically occurs in the ionosphere.

 Auroras seen near the magnetic pole may be high overhead, but from farther away, they illuminate the northern horizon as a greenish glow or sometimes a faint red, as if the Sun were rising from an unusual direction. The aurora borealis most often occurs near the equinoxes. The northern lights have had a number of names throughout history. The Cree call this phenomenon the "Dance of the Spirits". Rainbow Bridge, Odaiba, Tokyo in Japan.

The Rainbow Bridge is a suspension bridge crossing northern Tokyo Bay between Shibaura Pier and the Odaiba waterfront development in Minato, Tokyo, Japan.
Construction started in 1987 and was completed in 1993. The bridge is 798 metres (2,618 ft) long with a main span of 580 metres (1,903 ft).
The towers supporting the bridge are white in color, designed to harmonize with the skyline of central Tokyo seen from Odaiba. There are lamps placed on the wires supporting the bridge, which are illuminated into three different colors, red, white and green every night using solar energy obtained during the day. (Wikipedia)
