Another card via postcrossing!
"Banff Springs Hotel and Sulphur mountain at nightfall."

When the Canadian Pacific Railway opened the Banff Springs Hotel in 1888, it was the largest in the world. At that time, one could get a room for $3.50 a night, including hot water redirected from the hot springs nearby. Beautiful card, interesting too! Wish I could have seen it in 1888....
Thanks Julie in Canada!

Today I opened my mailbox and found this!!!
Jillian from Norfolk Island (Ext. Terr. of Australia!) sent it to me, quite a trip!
Norfolk Island is a small island in the Pacific Ocean located between Australia, New Zealand and New Caladonia. The island is part of the Commonwealth of Australia, but it enjoys a large degree of self governance. Together with two neighbouring islands, it forms one of Australia's external territories.

This card shows the violent power of Mount Ruapehu in eruption. It creates a magnificent spectacle against the night sky. It looks so dramatic.... Ruapehu is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and the largest active volcano of New Zealand!

Thanks again Jillian, I love it!

This is a postcard from Vietnam, a private swap! I love it!!!
You can see Hoi An City from Hoai River.

Locarno, Switzerland.
Madonna del Sasso.

The Madonna del Sasso is a sanctuary in Orselina above the city of Locarno in Switzerland. It is the principal sight and goal of pilgrimage in the city.
The founding of the sanctuary goes back to a vision of the Virgin Mary that the Franciscan brother Bartolomeo d'Ivrea experienced in the night of 14/15 August 1480. The interior is highly decorated, and a platform gives a magnificent view of the city. (Wikipedia)

Thanks Andy!

At this card you can see Buenos Aires at night .... You can see the 'Obelisco' and the Av. Nueve de Julio.
How I'd love to visit Argentina once...and not because our princess Maxima is Argentinan ;-)
Thanks Laura who sent me this card through postcrossing.com

Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city of Argentina and it's the second-largest metropolitan area in South America after Sao Paulo.
Avenue Nueve de Julio is one of the widest avenues in the world; its name honors Argentina's Independence Day.
El Obelisco was built in 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first founding of the city. El Obelisco is one of the main icons of the city, and a venue for various cultural activities (usually sponsored by the city government) and other events. It is the traditional gathering spot for sports fans to celebrate when their favourite team win. (Wikipedia).

I bought this card, it's the Euromast in Rotterdam (the Netherlands).

The Euromast is a tower in Rotterdam constructed between 1958 and 1960, designed by Hugh Maaskant. It was specially built for the 1960 Floriade. It is a concrete building with an internal diameter of 9 meters (30 ft) and a wall thickness of 30 centimetres (1 ft). For stability it is built on a concrete block of 1,900,000 kilograms (4,190,000 lb) so that the centre of gravity is below ground. It has a "crow's nest" observation platform 96 meters (315 ft) above-ground and a restaurant. Originally 101 meters (331 ft) in height it was the tallest building in Rotterdam. It lost this position for a while, but regained it when the "Space Tower" was added to the top of the building in 1970, giving an additional 85 meters (279 ft). Euromast is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers. (Wikipedia)

The Novodevichy convent (New Maidens convent), Moscow in Russia.
Thanks Ekaterina (Kuzkate) for this private swap :-)
The convent looks like it's in a fairytale, so mysterious and beautiful....

Novodevichy Convent, also known as Bogoroditse-Smolensky Monastery is probably the best-known cloister of Moscow. Its name, sometimes translated as the New Maidens' Monastery, was devised to differ from an ancient maiden's convent in the Moscow Kremlin. Unlike other Moscow cloisters, it has remained virtually intact since the 17th century. In 2004, it was proclaimed a Unesco World Heritage Site.
The Novodevichy Convent was founded in 1524 by Grand Prince Vasili III in commemoration of the conquest of Smolensk in 1514. (Wikipedia)

Norway, Aurora Borealis!
Thanks Signe for another private swap! :-)
What an unbelievable sight, surreal!

An aurora (plural: auroras or aurorae) is a natural light display in the sky, particularly in the polar regions, caused by the collision of charged particles directed by the Earth's magnetic field. An aurora is usually observed at night and typically occurs in the ionosphere.
In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis (or the northern lights), named after the Roman Goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas, by Pieree Gassendi in 1621.
Auroras seen near the magnetic pole may be high overhead, but from farther away, they illuminate the northern horizon as a greenish glow or sometimes a faint red, as if the Sun were rising from an unusual direction. The aurora borealis most often occurs near the equinoxes. The northern lights have had a number of names throughout history. The Cree call this phenomenon the "Dance of the Spirits". In Europe, in the Middle Ages, the auroras were commonly believed a sign from God (see Wilfried Schröder, Das Phänomen des Polarlichts, Darmstadt 1984). (Wikipedia)

The Parthenon in Athens, Greece.

The Parthenon is a temple in the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the Greek Goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their protector. Its construction began in 447 BCE and was completed in 438 BCE, although decorations of the Parthenon continued until 432 BCE. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered to be the culmination of the development of the Doric Order. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points of Greek Art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece and of Athenian Democracy and one of the world's greatest cultural monuments. (Wikipedia)

Thanks Helen!

Found another 'oldie' at a secondhand-store. Vienna must be so wonderful, hope to go there one day!

At this card you can see: "St. Stephen's Cathedral by night".

St. Stephen's Cathedral (German = Stephansdom) is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Vienna and the seat of the Archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Cardinal Schonborn,OP. Its current Romanesque and Gothic form seen today, situated at the heart of Vienna, Austria in the Stephansplatz, was largely initiated by Rudolf IV and stands on the ruins of two earlier churches, the first being a parish church consecrated in 1147. As the most important religious building in Austria's capital, the cathedral has borne witness to many important events in that nation's history and has, with its multi-colored tile roof, become one of the city's most recognizable symbols. Rainbow Bridge, Odaiba, Tokyo in Japan.

The Rainbow Bridge is a suspension bridge crossing northern Tokyo Bay between Shibaura Pier and the Odaiba waterfront development in Minato, Tokyo, Japan.
Construction started in 1987 and was completed in 1993. The bridge is 798 metres (2,618 ft) long with a main span of 580 metres (1,903 ft).
The towers supporting the bridge are white in color, designed to harmonize with the skyline of central Tokyo seen from Odaiba. There are lamps placed on the wires supporting the bridge, which are illuminated into three different colors, red, white and green every night using solar energy obtained during the day. (Wikipedia)
